Google Voice, A New Adventure in Telephony.

Google VoiceToday sparks a new era in telephony.  Today i received my invite to Google Voice.    I have been very interested in Google Voice since it was originally called grandcentral.   In this post I will give you a brief overview on some of the exciting features Google Voice.  My next blog will take you though the setup process, which was quick and painless and more in depth with configuring the features for your needs.

For those of you who are not familiar with Google Voice, it is a “telephone management service”  that is now offered by google.  In today’s day and age many people have multiple phones accessible to them.  I myself carry two cellphones, and I have a desk phone at work.  But many people have more then that, multiple home phones, fax lines,  cellphones, ect.  The concept of Google Voice is to consolidate this down to 1 single number that people can call or send SMS Text messages to.  At my job we were considering a service like this it was often referenced as “Find Me, Follow Me.”  What happens is when someone calls your Google Voice number, it will call every phone number you have defined, in an attempt to “Find You”.  When you answer whichever phone you are closes to, it will send the call to that phone, and drop all the other phones.  But Google Voice has taken this a step further and added a plethora of features.   Not only can you get voice mails from this system, but you can also have it forward your txts to all of your phones.  With a service like this you can now freely switch telephone carriers, telephone numbers, switch jobs, ect and still be able to be contacted with your 1 main Google Voice number.  Removing or adding a phone is very quick and easy.  But Google Voice does not stop with find me follow me, lets look at some of the more interesting features: Continue reading Google Voice, A New Adventure in Telephony.

My complaint about Robert

So here I am taking time out of my busy schedule to let you and maybe a few other people know that it is our duty to our children and to their children and to our yet unborn posterity to provide an atmosphere of mutual respect, free from officialism, irrationalism, and all other forms of prejudice and intolerance. For openers, by allowing Robert to inculcate cranky paroxysms, we are allowing him to play puppet master. All he really wants is to hang onto the perks he’s getting from the system. That’s all he really cares about.

Is it important that Robert uses vulgar language and makes obscene gestures at those whose opinions differ from his? Of course it’s important. But what’s more important is that the fallout from his snarky catch-phrases has been an increasingly predatory environment of calculation, scheming, and pandering that will, by virtue of its omnipresence, submerge us in a sea of credentialism. But I digress. This is not the first time I’ve wanted to compare, contrast, and identify the connections among different kinds of prudish gnosticism. But it is the first time I realized that if you read his writings while mentally out of focus, you may get the sense that snotty, combative scalawags are easily housebroken. But if you read Robert’s writings while mentally in focus and weigh each point carefully, it’s clear that if we don’t remove the Robert threat now, it will bite us in our backside quicker than you can double-check the spelling of “hexosemonophosphoric”.

Robert is currently limited to shrieking and spitting when he’s confronted with inconvenient facts. Sooner or later, however, Robert is likely to switch to some sort of “trick us into trading freedom for serfdom” approach to draw our attention away from such facts. If you want to clear up these muddied waters with some reality, then tell everyone you know the truth, that some day, in the far, far future, he will realize that his most recent mawkish claim (viz., that we should derive moral guidance from his glitzy, multi-culti, hip-hop, consumption-oriented utterances) is a tissue of lies, bias, and emotional manipulation from beginning to end. This realization will sink in slowly but surely and will be accompanied by a comprehension of how Robert may be reasonably cunning with words. However, he is entirely scummy with everything else. By working together, we can protect our peace, privacy, and safety. May we never forget this if we are to deny Robert  and his assistants a chance to trade facts for fantasy, truth for myths, academics for collective socialization, and individual thinking for group manipulation.

Game of the Week: UrbanDead

So to keep with our theme of Zombie Mayhem, I bring to you Urban Dead. This game has been around for quite some time now. It is an extremely basic web based game, where you move around the city, collecting items, and barricades to save you from the zombies outside. Different classes enable you to have different abilities as in many games, but this one has a twist… you can actually play as the zombies! Every hour you get a certain amount of moves, but if your moves run out and your outside, one of the lingering zombies may come past and kill you, bringing you to the ranks of Zombie fun. Some players may choose to stay this way, and play their game as the Zombie menance, but dont worry, you can be converted back to human provided you can find a some one with the proper syringe to do so. As i said before the game has a very basic display (Click Here to see a sample) Any way enough talking about this rather creative game, its time to go play it, Have fun.

Game Of The Week: The Last Stand 2

So by now you should have made your way though the first episode of The Last Stand to freedom. But Alas, while on the way to a military base, a medic treating a patient onboard realizes that his patient is dead seconds before the zombie kills him and the pilots, causing a catastrophic crash of which you are the sole survivor. After a month hiding in a hardware store, you hear a radio broadcast stating that the surviving military and civilian forces are calling all remaining survivors to a coastal city in order to save as many lives as possible before abandoning the mainland to the undead and taking to the seas. You have one month to travel across the state before the ships leave.
New game features include the ability to set traps, search individual buildings for survivors and gear, and travel between individual cities.

The Last Stand Screen Shot

It is now October, This seams like the right month to post this. The Last Stand Is a Web based flash game where you play a survivor in a world full of zombies. You build a small fortification where you defend your life from hordes of zombies. At night hordes of the undead come to feast on your flesh. All that stops them from doing so, is a shoddy fence and your expert marksmanship. During the day the zombie nightmare subsides and you have time to search for survivors and weapons to help you in your defense. The more survivors you have the better your searches go. At night the Survivors will help you defend your lives. This is a very interesting game.

Recipe: Peanut Butter Double Cheddar Cheese Burger

CONCEPT:
While I was in California we stopped in a place that served peanut butter bacon cheeseburgers. Ever since then I have wanted to make them at home. This is the first recipe I am posting. It is not a perfect recipe, as many of mine are not. At the bottom I will write my lessons learned from this recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

2 Frozen Hamburger patties
2 Slices Cheddar Cheese
1 Hamburger Bun
Creamy Peanut Butter

DIRECTIONS:
Cook Both Burger Patties. I fried mine, but you could grill them as well. Place the cheddar cheese on top of one of the patties while cooking it. Place one patty on the bun, put a spoonful of peanut butter down, and then place the other patty on top of the peanut butter. Then Eat.

LESSONS LEARNED:
1. Peanut butter melts when it is hot (this I knew), I placed too much PB in between the patties, and this caused them to slide apart when I was trying to eat it, making the whole process much more difficult and messy. In the future I will try a thinner layer of PB on the top and bottom of the bun to see if this will be less messy.

2. I have the idea of putting the pb into the patty. This will require me to make the Hamburgers from scratch instead of using the frozen Store bought ones. I believe this will add an interesting flavor thought out the entire burger, without the need for the mess mentioned above.

3. I would like to add the bacon back, and possibly the lettuce. If i go with option 2 i might go down this path as well.
